Our Hours
We monitor our services 24/7 but can actually be found in the office for technical support, billing questions or new accounts etc. Monday - Friday from 8AM to 6PM.
Our new technical support hours now match our business hours at 8AM to 6PM also. We made the change because, frankly, we rarely get any calls after 6PM and this extra hour of overlap during the day will let us get more done.
We are closed weekends and most holidays.
For billing and account related questions call 735-0408 for technical support call 783-3454.

Phishing Scams
We continue to get queries from customers about this. Please remember OWT sends out billing via Email to many of our customers but otherwise almost never Email our customers. We will NEVER EVER ask you for any of your account information via Email. EVER!!! Do not fall for these phishing scams!
Online scams to lure customers into providing account, personal or other sensitive information are on the rise. OWT takes several steps to help prevent this sort of thing but there is only so much we can do. Most phishing scams look very legitimate. Our MailScanner will alert you to any Email where a web link points to a different web address than the address it shows you in the Email. This bright red message might be annoying in harmless Emails where the marketer put a different link in just for tracking purposes but this feature has save many from clicking on harmful links that lead to malware installation.
We would like to remind our customers that OWT, and really almost everyone that runs a legitimate business, will NEVER ask you for sensitive information via Email. If they do require additional information they will ask you to login to your existing account and THEN request that information. Even very legitimate looking requests should be intensely scrutinized and we ask that everyone think long and hard before clicking on a web link from any Email that you are not sure about.

Ask An Expert
Very often we talk to customers that quite simply bought the wrong product for their needs. For many their only resource is what they learn from a salesman in a store or maybe an online review or two. In either case the information can be tainted. OWT is a service company and we really don't sell many products so you can count on us to give you unbiased advice based upon years and years of being geeks.
More and more we are being asked to consult on new purchases for our customers so we thought we would actually promote that service a bit. OWT will offer a consulting service where you can sit down with a technician and discuss your needs and we can help you decide the right product for you and quite often even help you find the best place to buy that product. Sometimes this will require some research on our part and other times we will just have the answers for you right away.
We really believe that you should never buy any device or technology without researching the available products and understanding which meet your needs the best. Then, understanding the pros and cons, you can make a decision based on features, value and price. OWT can do all of that for you and let you make an informed decision.
We don't pretend to be experts in everything but if you Email help@owt.com with what you are interested in accomplishing we will, at not charge, tell you if we can help you. If we can help you we can setup a time for you to come in and discuss it with us.
Not sure which PC or Mac to buy? Uncertain if you need an iPhone, Blackberry or Android? Cable or satellite TV? What are your DVR options? HD TVs? 3D or 2D? What's the best way to watch Netflix? Excessive Spam
The past 3 days you probably noticed more spam in your inbox than usual. So did we.
We made plenty of adjustments and we feel the spam tide is back to normal. Thank you for your patience.

Bogus OWT Emails (UPDATED)
We are once again getting some calls regarding an Email that appears to be from us requesting your username and password. This time it is WE WILL NEVER DO THIS!!! WE NEVER HAVE IN 15 YEARS AND WON'T EVER IN THE FUTURE!!!! Anytime you get an Email from ANYONE asking for your username and password it is almost certainly BOGUS!
Because spammers have, sadly, had some success getting our customers to give up their passwords they are working a bit harder at it now. Purporting to be OWT they are informing users that their webmail account has been disabled - something we would actually do if your account was compromised. This look pretty legit but IT IS NOT!!!! OWT WILL NEVER ASK YOU FOR YOUR PASSWORD except maybe on the phone during a technical support call when YOU are requesting help.

DSL Filters
DSL uses a clever technology to allow broadband Internet access over the same copper line you use for your telephone. The down side of this is that your telephone equipment can cause some problems for your broadband connection. For this reason DSL modems ship with a small supply of DSL filters. These filters are designed to be connected inline between your existing phone plug and the wall jack.
In the early days of DSL these filters really weren't a big deal and we really only pushed their use with FAX machines. However, today with DSL over ATM technology filters are more important. OWT suggests that EVERY phone, FAX machine, modem or satellite receiver be connected to the phone line with a filter connected. If your DSL is running slow or has any reliability issues we urge you to make sure all standard phone equipment is connected through a filter. If you can't find your filters please contact tech support and we will try to help you out.

'Psyb0t' Attacks Modems and Routers, Not PCs
A fascinating new botnet has been found running on DSL modems and routers running an embedded Linux distribution.
The worm is called "psyb0t" and appears to have been circulating since at least January, 2009. The worm infects any of a family of Linux Mipsel devices ("Mipsel" is the port of Debian Linux on MIPS processors) that contain one of several administration interfaces. The worm uses a dictionary attack against the admin interface.
If you have a DSL modem or Ethernet router with a "weak" password (something silly like admin and password) then YOU MAY BE VULNERABLE. We will have more info as it becomes available.

Bad RAM???
If your computer is acting up suddenly consider that any memory (RAM) recently installed (even many weeks ago) could be the culprit. We are seeing more RAM failures than at any time in memory and so swapping RAM out is now one of the first things we consider.
